That hustle got me regular slots in clubs across Fife, Falkirk, Edinburgh, Livingston and Stirling, in places like Carlton Studios and The FUBAR, sharing booths and after-hours sessions with names like Tom Wilson, ZBD and Technotrance, while tearing through more house parties than I could ever count.
Then life did what life does. Work, family and responsibility took over, and eventually the decks, mixer and vinyl ended up boxed away in storage while the rave years became stories.
But the music never really leaves you.
Over the last few years I’ve found my way back behind the decks through internet radio, been with 4TheMusic for over three years and, more recently, as part of the Ganghaus collective. After lockdown, I linked up with Mike Lindsay, Gary Jack and Jim Payne for a few casual sessions that quickly turned into something bigger.
Since then, we’ve played live at Silverburn Festival in Fife, the Day Moves afterparty at Abandon Ship in Dundee, and The Drop Inn in Birmingham. This month (June), Ganghaus will headline the Taiko Sound System area at this years Silverburn Festival and also The Wash Bar in Edinburgh.
Thirty years on, still chasing the same feeling, loud systems, dark rooms, acid house, indie dance heavy grooves and that moment when the crowd locks in.
